[Description by Cave Urban]

Cave Urban was invited by the Yothu Yindi Foundation to create a cultural gathering space for the 2022 Garma Festival. Built in collaboration with Agency Projects and Event Engineering. Following the principles of Tensegrity, the structure was made from locally sourced gadayka [stringy bark] saplings and built onsite with the assistance of the local community and volunteers. The design evokes patterns from the landscape; this hatching projects into the sand as shadows and light. This concentric shade structure was activated with an open fire at night and cultural forums during the day.
